Day 2 Paris – Opéra de Paris (Palais Garnier)

Leaving Église de la Madeleine in the afternoon, the hop-on-hop-off bus made it’s way along the Boulevard des Capucines to the Palais Garnier, home of Opéra de Paris. The façade is amazing! Unfortunately I didn’t have any tickets, so couldn’t get inside.

I came back after dark to see the illuminated façade. It was very busy, and there were lots of people around just enjoying themselves.

The theatre is also often referred to as the Opéra Garnier and historically was known as the Opéra de Paris or simply the Opéra. The Paris Opera now mainly uses the Palais Garnier for ballet. The building foundation stones were laid in 1862.
