Surrounding the Old Town Square is the Staré Město Old Town itself.
I followed the leader for the hop-on-hop-off bus to the first bus stop, and this took us through the Old Town. The bus can’t get into the town square or most of the old town, as they are pedestrian only streets. Most of the Old Town is listed with UNESCO as World Heritage.
The street we followed was Celetná Lane (yellow point), a cool narrow street with fascinating old buildings on each side.
On Celetná Lane we saw the House of the Black Madonna (Dům U Černé Matky Boží)(brown point), which is a cubist building, designed by Josef Gočár in 1911, and is now used for the Czech Museum of Cubism.
Further along Celetná Lane we came across the Powder Tower / Gate (Prašná brána) (dark blue point), one of the original gates of Prague, built in 1400’s.
Next to the Powder Tower (to the left along nám. Republiky) is the Municipal House (Obecní dům) (Green point), an Art Nouveau building, built from 1905 to 1911.
Continuing on to Republic Square (Náměstí Republiky) (red point) we headed towards the station to climb aboard the hop-on-hop-off bus.
