NZ 2016 – Day 12 – Wellington to Rotorua – Part 2 – September 2016 – Rotorua

We did a bit of a tiki tour of the town and stopped off at the Government Gardens, where I got to see my first thermal steam rising from the ground.

Tamaki Maori Village

This evening we had a highlight dinner at the Tamaki Maori Village.
The night included a welcome to the village, a display of Maori culture and the opportunity to participate, and a hangi dinner. Even though New Zealand is closer to me than Perth, I really didn’t realise the extent of their culture. I would recommend this to anyone unfamiliar with Maori culture.

After the village, one of the other girls and I headed out to the park behind the hotel to take photos of the sky. It was really cold, and I found out later it was actually just above freezing, with a “feels-like” temperature of -3!
